Southern California Solar Locations Map

Finding solar locations in Southern California.

Southern California, known for its abundant sunshine, has been actively adopting solar energy and developing solar farms and solar parking locations to harness renewable energy. While I don't have access to real-time data, I can provide you with some general information about solar farms and solar parking locations in Southern California based on my knowledge up until September 2021.

Solar Map of Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego commercial apartments, buildings & solar parking lots, and solar roofs.  One thing that strikes me from looking at these locations is why are there not more buildings with solar panels in Orange County, Irvine, and Palm Springs?  Is this a circumstantial issue or a culture of adopting renewable energy?  Appreciate your thoughts.  This map is continuously updated.

Solar Farms: Southern California is home to several large-scale solar farms that contribute to the region's renewable energy generation. Some notable solar farms in the area include:
  • Solar Star: Located in Kern and Los Angeles Counties, Solar Star is one of the largest solar farms in the United States, with a capacity of 747 MW.
  • Desert Sunlight Solar Farm: Situated in Riverside County, this solar farm has a capacity of 550 MW and covers a vast area of desert land.
  • California Valley Solar Ranch: Located in San Luis Obispo County, this solar farm has a capacity of 250 MW and is designed to blend with the surrounding landscape.
Solar Parking Locations: Southern California also features solar parking installations, where solar panels are integrated into parking structures or canopies to provide shade for vehicles while generating clean energy. Solar parking locations can be found in various cities and commercial areas, including:
  • Parking lots of shopping centers and malls
  • Office buildings and corporate campuses
  • Universities and educational institutions
  • Government facilities and public parking areas
These solar parking structures not only contribute to solar energy generation but also provide shaded parking spaces and reduce the urban heat island effect.

Southern California has been a leader in solar energy adoption, and many residents and businesses in the region have embraced solar power. With abundant sunshine and a favorable regulatory environment, solar roofs have become increasingly popular in Southern California.

Southern California had a significant number of homes and buildings with solar installations. In some areas, such as San Diego and Los Angeles, the number of solar roofs is particularly high due to favorable incentives and strong support for renewable energy.  The exact number of homes is hard to fathom.
